Longevity of Cane Corso Italiano dog breed and its relationship with hair colour<\/h2>\n

Thanks to the cooperation with 72 kennels from 25 countries around the world, the research team of the T\u00e1bor Zoo has for the first time managed to determine the mean life expectancy of Cane Corso dogs on statistically significant samples. Cane Corso dogs live on average 9.29 years. A surprising result was found when the average age of dogs of different colours was determined. Our research group found that black dogs live the longest (10.30 years), followed by brindle dogs (10.13 years), gray dogs (9.84 years), yellow dogs (9.01 years), black dogs (9.00 years), gray dogs (9.00 years), and dogs of other colors (8.09 years).<\/p>\n

The finding of the relationship between life expectancy and coat colour was first published in the world literature by the T\u00e1bor Zoo research team.<\/p>\n

Four novel genes associated with longevity found in Cane corso purebred dogs<\/h2>\n

In cooperation with the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the research team of the T\u00e1bor Zoo was the first in the world to discover 4 genes related to longevity in Cane Corso dogs. Currently, our research team is checking whether these genes are also related to longevity in other breeds.<\/p>\n

This finding may help to increase life expectancy in dogs. The longevity-related genes found can be used as markers for selecting potentially long-lived individuals. Targeted crossbreeding of individuals carrying these longevity-related genes may produce a longevity line in which dogs would live much longer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
